Kumrovec, the most famous village in the world, situated in the north-west part of the Republic of Croatia. It is located in the western part of the «Krapinsko-zagorska» county, and it gravitates towards Zagreb which is 48 km far.In Kumrovec you can find the museum «Staro selo» (*Old village), a unique museum in the open air, with preserved original country houses stemming from a transitional period between 19th/20th century. History of the «Staro Selo» begins from the erection of Tito’s monument in the year 1948 in front of his native house, and in the year 1952 the Museum was founded in Kumrovec. Today the native house of Josip Broz Tito is located at the beginning of the Museum and contains hystorical and ethnological exhibits. Approximately 40 resident-, farm- and auxiliary buildings have been constructed so far, and thus «Staro Selo» is really the most attractive building of such a kind in Croatia. Visitors can visit permanent ethnological collections of a traditional way of life from the end of 19th century, such as,for inst.: Wedding feast of Zagorje, Life of young married couple, From hemp to linen, Blacksmith’s handicraft, Cart-wright’s craft, Pottery, From a grain to bread, and other. Surrounded by the ruins of Cesargrad and a chapel of Our Lady «Risvièka», at the entrance in the Kumrovec district, on the road Klanjec-Kumrovec, there is a monument to the Croatian hymn «Lijepa naša» within a protected, important landscape of Zelenjak, surrounded by woody slopes of the river Sutla gorge. The monument was erected to mark 100th anniversary, by the Fellows of Croatian Dragon, that is, in honor of its author Antun Mihanović.
