The District of Žakanje is situated on the north-western part of the Republic of Croatia, on the territory of the County of Karlovac. The territory of the district stretches in an area of 70 km and about 4000 inhabitants live on this territory. The major part of the district is situated along the Kupa River and it borders on the neighbouring state Republic of Slovenia. The district is very-well connected with its surrounding (Karlovac, Zagreb), (Metika Novo Mesto, Republic of Slovenia) by main routes through the border crossing. Significant localities to be visited by tourists are the cave “Vrlovka” at Kamanje and churches at Kamanje, Žakanje and Lipnik. For organized tourists’ visits the Tourist Community of the district has organized the professional escort of the guide who welcomes all the visitors and takes them into the cave “Vrlovka”. During summer months it is posible to organize a whole-day stay with a tour of the old town and an ethnic settlement at Ozalj the old town Ribnik and the possibility of fishing and taking a bathe in the Kupa River, as the river is on this part irreproachably clean. A hunting tourism is also possible being organized in co-operation with the sportsmen’s club “Trèka” from Žakanje. For providing catering services, restaurants at Jurovski Brod and Pravutina are at disposal. All localities are near the main traffic routes so that every visit can be organized very well.
