Mljet is for many tourists one of the islands lost at sea. That is the island to which is actually hard to come to. Mljet is undentes elongated island, wide on average 3 km, and long 37 km. Naturewise it is the island of variety and contrast, and National park Mljet occupies its northern part, which extends over the area of 5.375 hectars of protected land and the surrounding sea. That area was declared National park on 11. november 1960. and represents the first attempt at protecting the original ecosystem in Adriatic.
