•In the 4th century before Christ, the Segestanoi, members of a great population of Celts, founded their town of Segestica in this territory, •35 years before Christ, the Romans under command of Octavian (who became later the first Roman emperor and took the name of August), conquered Segestica and built a new town, known by the name of Siscia, •Siscia became in the 3rd century a seat of diocese. The first known bishop was Kvirin who was arrested, tortured and killed during the Diocletian’s persecution of Christians, •St.Kvirin is a patron of the town of Sisak, •At the beginning of the 7th century the Croats came in these regions, •in the year 820 Sisak was a seat of a prince Ljudevit Posavski who united a majority of people in their battle against Franks, •at a time of penetration of Turkey towards Western Europe, on June 22,1593 a decisive historical battle took place under command of Croatian Vice-Roy Toma Bakač Erdody in which the Turkish army suffered a crushing defeat for the first time, •on June 22,1941 in Sisak was organized the first anti-fascist detachment in the occupied Europe, •on June,1991 in Sisak were formed the first armed units for defense of the native country.
