The most interesting and important part of the island of Lastovo is carnival called Lastovski poklad celebrated each year. It has a long tradition lasting for almost 4 Centuries. Lastovo has 46 churches, 46 tilling fields and 46 islands. Church of saint Kuzma and Damjan is the most significant church in the area, protector of Lastovo parish of the Island. In the year 2000 there is going to be 1000 year of the town of Lastovo celebrated, resistance of the Lastovo, people against the Venetian Doge Petro II Arseolo.
