In northwestern Istria, on a high hill over the Mirna valley is Oprtalj. It is located 378 m above sea level. Oprtalj attracts many visitors with its picturesque appearance. Every year in Oprtalj in July, a festival called “Alpe Adria Folk Fest” is held where folk orchestras from Italy, Slovenia, Austria and Croatia perform. At the same time there is a fair of black summer truffles where along the truffles, various producers with characteristic products of this area (wine, olive oil, honey, truffles…) are also presented. During the evening hours there is promotional tasting of black summer truffles on a large pan. The fields are known as a center of the famous Istrian white truffle. During October, the “Tuberfest” is a chance to see and taste original Istrian products. At the exhibition, judges rate and reward Istrian white truffles which can be bought, and the visitors are shown how to look for this underground mushroom with the help of specially trained dogs.
