Many famous personalities were active in Vrbovec and its surroundings such as the count Petar Zrinjski, the biologist Ljudevit-Farkaš-Vukotinović, the French nobleman Eugene de Piennes who presented to the Strossmayer gallery of ancient painters in Zagreb, 34 paintings of French, Holland, English and German painters, the historian Josip Butorac, the authoress of popular novels and the first woman-journalist in the south of Europe Marija Jurić Zagorka and others. Tourism began to develop in Vrbovec with added intensity by the appearance of the event “Kaj su jeli naši stari” (What our ancestors have eaten), by a unique tourist-culinary performance and by a tasting-sales show which is attracting more and more visitors. The rich national customs, natural beauties, nice vineyard huts, zoological game preserve Varoški lug, were rare birds such as a black stork, a white-tailed sea eagle can be found, hunting-grounds, fish-ponds, sports grounds, are the very reason to visit our town.
