Our commitment to the country is woven into our history. We do not only care about the health of our vineyards, but also about the surrounding natural environment. We are far enough from major roads and industrial plants, which is also important for eco-production.
With regard to climate change, which worries all farmers, we wanted to contribute to restoring balance to nature. That was the main guiding thread.
Switching to organic production does not only mean acquiring organic seedlings and obtaining a certificate from the Ministry. Organic production requires a lot of manual work. The natural laws of sustainability must be respected, without the use of mineral fertilizers and synthetic pesticides in protection.
In 2015, we cleared a neglected orchard and vineyard overgrown with bushes, which were most often used to dispose of the bulky waste of irresponsible fellow citizens. The ground was cleaned for about 3 years. We produced the first wines with the eco label in 2019.
The production and consumption of organic wines is increasing. It’s not just a trend. Eco wines have a cleaner and more natural smell and taste. The advantage is that eco wines contain a lower level of sulfur dioxide, which must be used in moderation because it can cause headaches and nausea. In addition, wines in the bottle age more slowly, but do not lose their taste and structure.
We pour love for the earth into every bottle of wine we produce. That’s why our wines take on another dimension, they are produced with passion and emotions.
Visit to the cellar and tasting room
Wines can be tasted, according to many, in one of the most beautiful tasting rooms in Zagorje, in front of which there is a large old wooden press in the yard.
The traditional press of Zagorje kleti is more than 100 years old. The “ordinary” wooden press with a spindle, which was used for pressing and squeezing grapes, became an attraction for all visitors to the estate. Particularly impressive is the sand stone that serves as a counterweight for pressing the grapes, weighing 500 kg. The stone is hand-hewn and shaped, and the hole through the stone is hand-drilled.
For the last 50 years, it has been gathering dust in a nearby barn. 10 years ago, the Zdolc family opened a tasting room and then they decided to display the press on their property. In addition to the authenticity of the tasting room, old jugs, wooden brents and bowls contribute. The goal of the Zdolčevs was to convey Zagorje tradition to the visitors of their estate and winery.
In order to see how well the historical value has been preserved, the estate is open to visitors on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Guests are encouraged to book their appointment for guided tastings.
